ScreenGrid is a shareware that extends the functions of dragging and growing windows. When the gray rectangle of dragging window and growing window comes to close to a screen edge, the gray rectangle will snap to the screen edge and will be locked.
By pressing command key or option key while dragging and growing window, ScreenGrid does not effect and dragging and growing operations. If you release command key or option key, ScreenGrid will effect dragging and growing operations again.
By pressing shift key while dragging and growing window, the gray rectanglw can move only horizontally, vertical and along 45/135/225/315 degrees.
Setting Options

You can set the following options of ScreenGrid on ScreenGrid control panel.
Snap to screen edge
The gray rectangle will snap to four edges of each screen.
Snap to virtual grid on screen
The gray rectangle will snap to virtual grid on each screen. Default horizontal and vertical grid spacing is 64 pixels.
Snap to window edge
The gray rectangle will snap to four edges of each window in same application.

Setting more options

By clicking More Options… button, you can set the following options of ScreenGrid.
Screen margin
The margin of screen. For example, if you set 10 for Left: margin, the window's gray rectangle will snap to the vertical line 10 pixels right from screen's left edge.
Virtual grid
The virtual grid spacing of screen. The origin of grid is top-left corner of screen including screen margin.
Window margin
The margin of window. For example, if you set 10 for Left: margin and Right: margin, the vertical line 10 pixels left from left edge of dragging window will snap to the vertical line 10 pixels right from window's left edge.

Advanced Usage

ScreenGrid might not be able to effect to some applications like Finder of MacOS 8 or later. However ScreenGrid can effect to such applications. To do so, you can update the internal data base (hint data base) of ScreenGrid by following steps.
Start tracing
Click Start tracing button on the dialogue box displayed by clicking Special… button on ScreenGrid control panel. Then Close the dialogue box. If you click title bar area of the window which is created after you click Start tracing button, the file named ScreenGrid.wlog will be created on your desktop. ScreenGrid.wlog file is formatted like:
Create the file named ScreenGrid.hint into Preferences folder. If you already have ScreenGrid.hint file, edit that file. The resource template is enclosed with ScreenGrid package. Append 'HINT' resource to that file with resource editor program like ResEdit. You can choose the resource ID as you like and there is no limit for number of 'HINT' resources. In the 'HINT' resource:
Creator : Application creator from (*1).
Type : Application type from (*1), blank means any type of application.
Others? : True if you do not specify the window ID (any other window types).
Window : Window ID from (*1).
Flags : 1
Modifiers: excepted keyboard modifiers.
• You can set 0 to Flags to stop the effect of ScreenGrid.
• If you set $0800 for Modifiers, you can stop the effect of ScreenGrid by pressing option key.
Update data base
Click Update data base button on the dialogue box displayed by clicking Special… button on ScreenGrid control panel. Then Close the dialogue box. This will update the internal data base of ScreenGrid.
Stop tracing
Click Stop tracing button on the dialogue box displayed by clicking Special… button on ScreenGrid control panel. Then Close the dialogue box.
